Got wind?
It seems wherevever you look today you will find some nominally 'green' message. Whether it's biodegradable eco-packaging, organic ingredients, Fair Trade credentials or nom de jour carbon neutrality. Whilst at a macro level this is obviously great or at least positive, at a micro level I find it really fucking annoying. Even those bastions of filfth McDonalds harp on about how well cared for their cows are, at least before they are bolt gunned. How anyone is supposed to enjoy a guilty pleasure these days I just don't know. What was once a personal choice, a willing conscious desire to polute my body has now become a global cause. I can't ingest a Big Mac for fear of some down tufted seal getting dunked in crude oil. Where does personal autonomy now start and end?
On a slightly more advertising related note I keep seeing wind farm adverts on the idiot box. There is an obvious one for someone calle E-on where people are blown around whilst laughing in very Innocent/Fruitstock kind of a way. Whilst obvious and visually engaging I can't help feel that it's advertising by numbers. It delivered against the brief so they didn't push further. This is a shame and a trap others haven't fallen into. I just came across this advert for Epuron which has an equally socially conscious message, manages to tell a charming and emotioanlly touching story, yet manages to deftly skip the obvious. Whilst I'm not sure how well it would fair on TV the internet seems a perfect medium for it's slow burn narrative. I also think the casting director should be given a medal for having picked such a fantastic lead actor.
