Fall Festival

This weekend Pearl Street has been alive with the sound of live music and laughter as Boulder celebrates it’s annual Fall Festival. The pedestrian mall is full of local artists (although if you excuse my cynicism perhaps ‘craft enthusiasts’ would be a more appropriate term). Nevertheless if ever you are in need for a highly polished wooden bowl, an ornate light switch pull or your name bent out of old forks I suggest you get down to Pearl Street pronto! My personal favourite however was the 'Didgeridoo Therapy couple. Volunteers wore a contraption over their head and ears made from various tubes and funnels and the musicians waved their instruments willy nilly around the various openings creating an eerie stereo effect inside the listeners head. What an inspired idea! It reminded me of that old classic the 'Virtual Haircut' holophonic demo. Put your headphones on and listen here.
All that aside it makes for a wonderful atmosphere of family fun and local community wellbeing. I’ve just spent a very contended hour or three reading my book in the sun outside one of the little cafes lining the street. I also saw my first evidence of organised political protest.
